Since we woke up to another warm winter's day on New Year's, we decided to do something fun outdoors. There's a state forest not too far from home, so we drove over for a hike. I was just starting to get the feeling that I needed to get away from the city hubbub, so it was welcome refreshment to be out where you kind of feel all alone. We saw a few other hikers and campers, but mostly it was just us and the squirrels. Three and a half miles round trip doesn't seem like much hiking, but the sugar sand and carrying a 19lb kid posed some challenge. The sore back (I carried her out after D carried her in) was small payment for the gorgeous weather, lush surroundings and fresh air.
